As in 2016, and in collaboration with SPCAL, at the end of 2017, TERNOX donated Thermo Scientific freezers capable of temperatures up to -150⁰C, to Portuguese higher education institutions and research laboratories.
The applications were sent to SPCAL and were evaluated by TERNOX's management, which, as announced, donated these equipments to the candidates who described in a more detailed and convincing manner their research activity and its impact on science and society .
These expensive equipments, indispensable to many areas of research, can cost as much as tens of thousands of euros, being out of the reach for many scientific teams in Portugal. Adding to the two freezing storage units originally announced, TERNOX generously offrered yet another two, one of -150 ⁰C, and another with refrigeration up to -87⁰C. Thus, the following applicants were awarded:
Arca -150º - Filomena Botelho of the University of Coimbra.
Arca -150º - Maria Guarino for the new facilities of the Polytechnic Institute of Leiria
Arca -87º - José Belo of the New University of Lisbon.
Arca -150º - Helena Canhão for the creation of the Portuguese Biobank.
